LITHUANIA
Lithuania, like the Czech Republic, is a new country to join the EU. The Vicar’s links are with the pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marijampolé, and came through meeting him whilst on a visit to Oslo. The church at Nordberg has been supporting the rebuilding of the church in Marijampolé after it was handed back from the communist authorities.
We were delighted to hear how Vaidas Klesevicius and his wife Valé were recipients of 500 boxes of toys from the Samaritan’s Purse scheme in 2003, which they distributed to the needy children in the area. We at St Anne’s make up shoe-boxes of toys in the Autumn for children who are in need because of war or great poverty around the world. In 2004, over 60 of these were prepared by people connected to St Anne’s.
